  The Centennial Volunteer Ambassador position will support the volunteer program at Catoctin Mountain Park to expand service-learning, service and community engagement programs and activities.   The Firelands Land Conservancy (FLC), a land trust, is a member-supported, not-for-profit organization created to protect natural lands, waters, open spaces and historic resources in Huron, Erie, and Lorain counties. The Land Preservation Associate assists the staff as they work to preserve a healthy balance between natural areas, farmland, and development in the Firelands and surrounding areas. They will also work on providing information about the need to protect the natural heritage and the integrity of this precious land and work with land owners who want to preserve their land. This is a non-profit program. Land Preservation Associates support the WRLC is by doing research on proposed sites and writing various land grant components. The research may involve looking up plant/animal species in potential preserved areas, finding and interpreting legal documents relating to specific regions, and extracting other crucial details about the conservation sites.   My main completed task was gathering donations to use at the Walk to End Alzheimer's and other Alzheimer's Association fundraisers. I first compiled a list of 200 local businesses and their contact information. I then sent various forms of donation requests to these businesses and received donations totaling around $1000. My other fundraising tasks included assisting in all pre-Walk event organization and sending out information concerning the Walk. Another aspect of my work was to communicate with media sources throughout southern California. I first expanded the organization's list of news sources to cover all relevant contacts throughout the Central Coast Chapter's four served counties. Every week I worked on press releases concerning local events and general Association news and sent these to the media sources. I also posted Alzheimer's Association events to a non-profit networking website. Show less
