1987: Care and custody of 681 inmates in a confined Maximum security setting. Safe and secure armed transportation to any appointments outside of the facility. Respond to emergency incidents at the facility. On occasion, the altercations would involve large groups of inmates partaking in an altercation or insurrection for several months. K-9 Units, C.N./C.S. chemical agents, and specialized staff with specific firearms training would be employed into paramilitary/tactical teams. 1997: Promoted to the rank of Sergeant after an aptitude test administered and an interview panel. Recruited in 1998 to become a certified Background Investigator and C.J.I.S./N.C.I.C. operator. Completed/reviewed thousands of job applications during four hiring projects. 2000: Transferred to M.C.I. Shirley, a fifteen hundred (1,500) bed Medium Security Facility. Many of the inmates were ill or in-firmed. Violence level reduced exponentially with an aging inmate population. 2002: Received "Correction Officer of the Year" award for meritorious conduct from the Secretary's Office for Public Safety and Security at the state house in Boston, MA (successful C.P.R. on stranded motorist while en route to work). 2003: Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant after a an aptitude test and interview panel. This position is second in the chain of command after Sergeant. I was selected to lead the M.C.I. Shirley Investigations Unit. Our goal was to stem the flow of contraband inside and outside of the facility and report violations of rules and regulations by staff to the Superintendent. 2004: Promoted to the rank of Captain by an interview panel assembled by the Commissioner. Many of the job duties related to this position required staff discipline, interviews conducted to reveal any potential legal action (staff and inmates) that may be required. Acted as the "Superintendent's Designee" during weekends, holidays or off-hours. Extremely multi-faceted position. Show less
