Bio
Miguel Martin Sioco
There is a clear difference between a supplier and a partner in the product strategy process, and Giulio fits perfectly well in the latter. As a product designer for a scale-up facing several headwinds in UX maturity, he strives to ensure that our UX output creates impactful outcomes for both the business and users, regardless if he is working with a product owner, a developer, or a fellow UXer. This was most evident in our last project working together about a platform-wide redesign. Originally, it began as a project pushed forward by a stakeholder's impulsive decision to make over-arching visual design changes to all the product verticals, driven solely by an assumption that just because it looks better, it will perform better for the business and the users. Instead of sitting back or comisserating with others about the decision, he takes the lead to kickstart fireside chats with product owners about the risks of this endeavor and put forth a different proposal that begins with a triage of research activities to reduce overall risk with little cost to the scrum teams and the overall business. This huge strategic effort allowed him to shift the topic away from assumptive visual tasks to an evidence-based exploration of iterative opportunities for design, effectively directing the team towards small and cheap iterative changes that in the end made significant user and business impact. This whole endeavor is an example of how design can stragetically affect a product team's resources, capacities, and most importantly impact. If you need design to be a impact-maker and partner in your product organization, then you need someone like Giulio to be on your team.

I had the pleasure to be working with Giulio at vidaXL. His creativeness and empathic personality made him an outstanding sparring partner to finetune designs, come up with new concepts, and champion for usability and accessibility within our company.
