PhD thesis title: Genomic and phenotypic analyses of polychaete sibling species Platynereis dumerilii and Platynereis massiliensis in relation to Ocean Acidification It was a multidisciplinary project focused on the study of a model polychaete species Platynereis dumerilii, and its sibling P. massiliensis, to evaluate the effects of different environmental stressors, such as global warming and ocean acidification, on the cryptic speciation of these important species. The aim of the PhD project was achieved thorough morphological and morphometric analyses, laboratory rearing of Platynereis spp. individuals to study their life history traits and reproductive biology, genotyping to verify the occurrence of sibling species (COI PCR; RAD-seq), laboratory experiments on selected populations/genotypes to study physiological responses to variability of pH and temperature (TOSC; antioxidant enzymes); related all the above features to verify the role of climate factors and stressors on the possible cryptic speciation of P. dumerilii and P. massiliensis.

Department of Life and Environment UNIVPM Thesis topic: The aims of this work were to improve the knowledge of the skeletal morphology and growth strategy of the Stylasteridae (Cnidaria, Hydrozoa), hydroids characterized by a hard calcareous skeleton. The morphology of the stylasterid skeleton was investigated using an integrated approach including the traditional Scanning Electron Microscope technique and the X-ray Computed Microtomography technique. X-ray CT experiments have been carried out at the Elettra Synchrotron Light Laboratory in Basovizza (Trieste - Italy). The experiments have been performed at the Tomolab station and at the SYRMEP beamline. During the experiments I got the hang of all steps necessary to acquire the microtomography slices from the sample and the elaboration of them until the visualization with the software VGStudio MAX 2.0.
