Inside an archive. Care and management of art and architecture archives is an intensive course to explore the world of archives and topics such as conservation, legal and material management of assets, along with documentation and inventory of works and their creative process. The course also addresses the care of heritage and the strategies to enhance it. In addition to lectures and visits to some archives in the capital, a workshop was created to allow the participants to experience directly what they have learned during class hours. Reuse the Ruin - Summer Architecture Workshop

The intensive summer course has been specifically oriented to provide a complete experience in architectural restoration working on the ghost village of Castelvecchio. The workshop aim was the development of a reuse project and it was also accompanied by lectures and conferences held by international professionals who guided the participants into the world of restoration through the analysis of some selected themes and their supervision during the drawing phase. The internship was aimed at working on all aspects of architectural design and urban planning by participating in competitions, research projects and meetings with clients. The work varied from the development of the concept to the production of graphics and 3D modeling. The study of the English language in a young, stimulating and evolving environment was another important aspect of this experience. The office of Kotas/Pantaleoni Architects has designed numerous residential and commercial buildings, energy efficient mix-use urban infill, participated in many projects of special application in urban design and planning exercises. Most of their work is in San Francisco, but can be found throughout the bay area. The Tansev House, the Ulloa Street House, House of Faith and the Tower Car Wash, have been honored with the Gold Nugget, DIFFA, and various AIA/Sunset Magazine awards. They have been published in several periodicals including Progressive Architecture, Sunset, Northern California Home & Garden, SF, and Masonry Design West magazines; and books such as Bay Area Houses by Sally Woodbridge, Cottage Life by Richard Sexton, and New Architecture San Francisco by James Shay. The internship project involved the restoration of the north transept and the chapel of the Cathedral of Saint Martin in Lucca. The activity was aimed at cleaning the stone artefact, removing and remaking grouting of cracks or deficiencies, consolidation, grouting and final painting. The technical skills acquired are the first general notions of restoration both on stone artefacts and on decorated stucco walls.
