I attended an internship in the medicinal chemistry laboratory in the University of Wien, mainly involved in designing and synthesizing new compounds as potential targets for various viral diseases. Among the vast families of viruses, the genus Enterovirus of the family Picornaviridae contains a large group of clinically important pathogens for which no specific antiviral agents are clinically approved. I therefore worked on a project concerning the study of the synthetic way and the development of potentially active heterocyclic molecules. Moreover, during the first period of my internship I re-synthesized promising compounds for further in vitro and in vivo tests. Show less

During my thesis period I synthetized glycoconjugates, in particular, biologically active N-oxyamide linked anionic glycoglycerolipids compounds. The goal of my thesis project was to introduce an N-oxiamide group in compounds potentially active against akt (hyperactivated in cancer cells), with the aim of increasing their stability to hydrolysis. In fact, in literature it is reported that the introduction of this group in different classes of compounds determines an increase of their stability. Two different synthetic strategies were studied. The anti-proliferative activity of the obtained compounds was examined in the human ovarian carcinoma IGROV-1 cell line, promising values of IC-50 were obtained Show less
