I had the pleasure of joining and working with Adam at cocoNFT. This was my first full-time software engineer position and Adam was crucial in making it the best work experience I've had to date. From day one he was great at making me feel welcomed and a part of the team. He is extremely approachable to any questions, open-minded to alternative solutions, and great at giving feedback in a supportive way, all of which is beyond helpful to someone new to the industry. He was always there to answer any question that I had and/or walk me through anything that needed explaining. Beyond that, he was a great teammate and was very fundamental in ensuring a positive and fun work environment. I can guarantee that any engineers working with or under Adam will absolutely excel and quickly grow in their role. I would gladly work with Adam again and hope I can sometime in the future.

Adam has been a huge inspiration in my transition to tech. We met when he taught my Web Development course in early 2021. His teaching was effective, efficient and he showcased a great amount of compassion. He was able to break down technical concepts in a way that anyone could understand. He was receptive and capable of providing constructive feedback when answering questions. It was because of his outstanding job done as an instructor that I felt more hopeful about a career as a developer. Adam made it a point to stay in touch and about a year later he recruited me onto his team and I’m extremely grateful. In the time I’ve worked with him, he strives to enable a stress-free environment, pushing for open-mindedness and working through struggles as a team. He always goes the extra mile to ensure his support and encourage work-life balance. On top of that he has a great sense of humor that uplifts the team, he’s easy to approach, and very down to earth. If given the chance, I would work for him again as he's ultimately the best mentor and supervisor I’ve had in my entire career.

BrainStation is the global leader in digital skills training with campuses in Vancouver, Toronto, New York, and online. With over 100,000+ professionals trained, they empower businesses and brands to succeed in the digital age. In my time with BrainStation, I have taught about 300+ individuals in this role. My current responsibility is leading the delivery of their Part-time Remote Web Development Bootcamp, by teaching two 2-hour lessons on a weekly basis and coordinating with our team of Instructors and Teaching Assistants for a class of 35+ students. I also lead Software Engineering sessions for their Intro Days for Software Engineering. Previously, some of my other responsibilities have also included; • Lead their part-time four-month Web Development Fundamentals course, and taught during the transition from an in-person class format to a remote format. I taught this cohort four times. • Leading a full-day Web Accessibility workshop. This involved providing feedback as to how the course could be improved, as well as presenting existing content. The students in this workshop were primarily designers who were already working in the industry. • Leading an interactive workshop for Web Development alumni to prepare for technical aspects of Web Development interviews, and conducting mock-interviews for other students. As we continued to scale cocoNFT as a platform that was less focused on only making Instagram posts NFTs but rather a platform to make it as accessible as possible for creators to join the web3 space without any crypto knowledge, my role involved providing more leadership. This could also conventionally be referred to as a “Tech Lead” or “Engineering Lead” role. My focus shifted from writing good code that will scale to providing leadership for a team that can scale our codebase with a sense of autonomy. Right now this means collaborating with our Engineering Manager on hiring, onboarding, and mentoring a team of engineers. This also involves coordinating tasks across the team while understanding how it applies to our longer-term roadmap and assuring that engineers on the team are consistently getting better as individual contributors. While writing code is still a big part of my role, providing leadership across the team has become an important part of what I do. Some values that I have in this position include;• Not imposing technical decisions on the rest of the team, but rather fostering a culture where autonomy to make decisions quickly based on the rest of our stack thrives.• Focusing on my team’s contributions over my individual contributions by prioritizing my time mentoring, doing code reviews, pair programming, and one-on-ones with team members.• Making sure team members’ contributions continuously grow in scope and that their skillset is growing in the way that they see fit. Every developer learns differently, and my intention is to accommodate their learning style over my teaching style.• Focusing on high level architecture and standards to make building everything across the site as least confusing as possible. Senior Software Engineer

Sep 2021 - May 2022
This role has been focused on scaling the cocoNFT platform - this involved a major rebrand and redesign of the platform we originally built and introducing new processes and technologies to help us scale. At this time, the cocoNFT team had 10+ people on it fulfilling various roles. My role was focused on making sure everything we were doing on the React and UI side of things would scale going forward. The launch of this new platform ended up being successful - with over 30,000 Instagram posts generated as NFTs within a few months, including the most liked post (with 55.9m likes) in Instagram's history being minted and a partnership with Susan Sarandon. With these successes, we were able to secure additional pre-seed funding from LOI Ventures. Show less

May 2021 - Aug 2021
cocoNFT started as a hackathon project sponsored by Rarible - the intention was to make it as easy as possible to mint an NFT by allowing users to connect their Instagram and instantly publish posts from their account within a few minutes with no extra fees.I was brought in after the hackathon as their first hire with a contract that was initially intended to last a few weeks. The purpose was to build a minimum viable product to show investors - it ended up being a success and was able to very quickly gain pre-seed funding with the prototype which allowed us to bring on plenty of new team members. Our MVP primarily used React, and I continued to maintain the project until August when I decided to join the team full-time. Additional tech used included TypeScript, nextJS, Chakra UI, and graphQL, with a Node and Express back-end. Show less

Apply Digital was formed by many of Blast Radius’ senior management. I joined the company when it was five years old, at which point it had ~120 employees. They have plenty of large scale clients such as Moderna, Electronic Arts, and lululemon. My role was on a team of ~20 engineers for a high profile project for a Fortune 100 company. A big initiative on this project was addressing long-term technical debt by introducing React technologies like react-testing-library and react query to help them scale. Show less

I worked varying hours in the evenings based on my schedule, and my role involved writing React, Node, and TypeScript with Material UI to build the customer-facing interface. Software Developer & Practice Lead (Web Development)

Oct 2018 - Mar 2019
As the Practice Lead of Web Development, I worked with the community of developers that contribute to any of Best Buy's Web Applications to set standards and to make sure common problems that we encountered as a community were shared and easily resolved. This would be in the form of mentoring and facilitating how we could solve any problems that we came across. A lot of these problems at the time revolved around how we could expand a new mobile website built in React to replace our legacy desktop website with feature parity. While I was in this role, I also worked as a Software Developer, building a new global header and footer that would scale across our site without front-end dependency issues, while also allowing business users to publish any changes through a headless CMS. I worked with Best Buy during a large transition period where we retired a lot of legacy technologies and upgraded them - from Bootstrap to Foundation, LESS to SASS, JMVC to Angular, and SVN to Git. I was also part of the organization's transition from Waterfall to Agile - working on the Front-end team for my first year and a half at Best Buy then switching to the Product, Browse, and Search team.
