As a tutor for CS1 in Python at UCSD (CSE 8A) I helped facilitate weekly labs, was on the Programming Assignments (PA) team, and completed grading. I worked in a collaborative environment with other tutors and Graduate Teaching Assistants (TAs) to update assignments from previous quarters, adding a theme of computing for social good to help engage our students. I provided one-on-one tutoring to help students with assignments and understanding concepts, both in person and on Zoom. I concurrently took CSE 95: Tutor Apprenticeship to learn best practices such as guiding students to learn concepts, rather than collecting points on assignments. Show less

This summer I am a teaching assistant for Girls Who Code's Virtual Summer Immersion Program (VSIP). This two week virtual program teaches high school girls about the fundamentals of computer science, how to build a website, opportunities and careers in technology, and helps them find and build a supportive community. I participated in the program three summers ago and had an amazing experience; this program was the reason I decided to major in computer science in college. I am excited to teach these girls about computer science and show them this is a world and career that they belong in. Show less

The Experiment Digital is a virtual exchange program with over 1,000 high school students from the United States, Algeria, Iraq, and Yemen with a focus on leadership and being civically engaged. I really enjoyed learning about other cultures and finding similarities and differences between me and other people who live across the United States and the globe. Summer 2020 I participated in the Teens in Public Service internship at the nonprofit Amara. I worked on the communications team. Some of my projects have been scheduling posts for social channels, creating visuals for Facebook and Instagram using Canva, and updating the website using Wordpress. I also talked with people in many different jobs at Amara to learn about how nonprofits function and what it's like to work at one. Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program

Summer 2019 I participated in the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program where I learned to code with Scratch, Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It was hosted by F5 networks and so I got to spend my summer learning in the environment of a tech company in downtown Seattle. One of my favorite parts of the program was learning about the different options of careers in technology and I had the opportunity to talk to many women who work at F5 and hear their stories. I also liked learning how to use code to do things I do in my everyday life, like using Python to put a filter on photos! For my final project I worked with a team to build a website using HTML and CSS to spread awareness and provide information about climate change. Show less
