Developmental Reading Professor. My class consist of a small group of students who did not meet proficiency for the entrance exam in reading for Suffolk County Community College. I follow a department requirements but insert my own techniques into the class. The objective is to help the students to read college level materials and to give them strategies to navigate the materials. I use the text book as asked but also read a high interest novel with them. The catch is we do literature circles of five students each. They are to go home and read on an agreed amount of pages and be prepared with role sheets to share with their group. They LOVED this!! and so did I. A student questionnaire was given to them by the Department Chair. I was pleased to read that they felt I was not only helping them with this class but in the others they were taking too.

Tutoring in Reading to students who are struggling. One on one for an hour with text that is on the current reading level of the child. I assess this with a running record and comprehension questions. Tutoring in Reading to students who are struggling. Country Woods is a K-2 building. This model is great to work in because the students are all Early Childhood. I loved being able to use Wilson techniques, Fundations, and LLI. Worked as a leave replacement for a teacher who had a baby. Silas Wood is a sixth grade center and very unique. Sixth grade is such a tough time for students but this building is great at transitioning them to Middle School. Truly enjoyed this experience. I was a teacher at PS 226 for 9 years. I worked as a classroom teacher for Kindergarten, Third, Fifth and Sixth Grade. I was an apprentice for the AUSSIE program introducing balanced literacy to my colleagues. My experience there was wonderful. I worked with primarily city students who where struggling learners. I helped the students and their families to succeed in school. I left there with only great memories and experience. I was a teacher at PS 226 for 9 years.
