Working at a fantastic food distributor, the 'Chef's best kept secret'. We work directly with the best artisan fruit, chocolate, vegetables, poultry and meat from suppliers based in the UK, France and Europe. We dry age (in a Himalayan salt lined ageing room), we butcher and we source product. We have a client base ranging from Michelin 3 starred establishments, to caterers, to small independents. Maurice and I helped set up, manage and run LMDC-Hampers, our direct to consumer part of Le Marche Des Chefs. We offered gourmet hampers delivered weekly to home customers. I started as an invoice typist - as the company did not own any computers. I progressed to help put in a computer system, implementing control procedures, overseeing credit control and ensuring data integrity. I learnt book keeping, and working with our management accountants how accounts should function in a company. It was a fantastic learning experience - I can't pretend I was the best Financial Controller in the world, and it's not a career path I have chosen to follow, but great nonetheless. Show less
