Fernando Ortiz Jr.

Gilbert is the calm center of the storm. Night after night, multiple deadlines, breaking news, and typical newsroom chaos never broke his stride. He was reliable, friendly, flexible, and true pleasure to work with. His work both at the newspaper and long after he left the newsroom expresses his intelligence, creative ambition, and perspective on a world desperately in need of more of his vision. Journalism, graphic design, academics, and business are all fields that he would greatly enrich.

Gilbert is a talented and creative page designer who is as comfortable designing news pages as he is features pages, the latter being his real love. He is dependable, deadline-conscious and eager to learn new skills. Gilbert is fun to work with, and I can't recall ever seeing him in a bad mood. We miss him at the Express-News!
