Virtual Advising AmeriCorps Member
-
Aug 2014 - Jun 2015
As a virtual advisor, I counseled a cohort of underrepresented students applying to some of the most selective schools in the country, providing expert guidance on topics like applications, essays, FAFSA and financial aid, and more. During the first program year I helped to develop curriculum and the methods by which we engage with students and deliver advising materials. I also coordinated and ran workshops for College Possible Twin Cities focused on selective school admissions, recruited students at a local high school for our after-school program, and performed a variety of support duties.

At Habitat I ran the fundraising operations of the organization, working in conjunction with the executive director to develop the role as the first VISTA in this position. I ran a silent auction from solicitation to the day-of operations, as well as assisting with the planning and coordination of our annual training conference by working with trainers, taking registrations, and promoting the event. I also created our first coupon book fundraiser, and researched and wrote grants, creating a grants calendar and winning $80,000 in grant money.
