Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, EU2020 - "Algal Microbiome: Friends and Foes" programme. The development and morphology of the green macroalgae Ulva mutabilis is strictly dependent on morphogens released by two bacteria, Maribacter sp. and Roseovarius sp. My project aims to understand the molecular mechanisms that regulate the Ulva development under external stimuli such as bacterial morphogens using Transcriptomics and Metabolomics techniques. In parallel, the project was also focused on the characterization of the bacterial community diversity and composition of macroalgae aquaculture at a commercial scale with amplicon sequencing using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) methodology. Expertise: 1) Algal growth biomass and waterborne extracts. Monitor physiology of fish larvae (Sparus auratus). 2) Microbiological analysis: cultivation and isolation of aquaculture bacterial strains, quantification of bacteria using genetic markers through flow cytometry, evaluate bacterial diversity and richness using molecular techniques (PCRs, DGGE-PCRs, 545 Pyrociquencing). Bacterial inhibition tests. Data analysis and periodical reports. 3) Supporting the scientific team with planning, preparation, execution of field sampling in lagoon, sea shore and underwater environments, and samples conditioning for biological (also microbiology) and chemical analysis.
