MISSION Providing Christ-centered education and leadership development programs to impoverished indigenous people living in the 9 villages surrounding Sumpango Guatemala; with the goal of building up a generation of God-fearing, healthy, educated leaders in their family, community and country. DESCRIPTION For many children public education ends at grade six and the quality of education in indigenous areas is notoriously poor. For the most part, parents are not educated and do not see the value of a higher education. They believe that experience comes from working in the fields or homes and that their children should start their own families at an early age. However, some families are serious about supporting their children in continued education post grade 6 but do not have the financial means to provide them the opportunity. As a result, many children are left with few alternatives except to earn a subsistence living through manual labor. PILAS aims to provide effective educational support services (grades 7-12) which will develop a student’s academic and problem solving skills as well as expand on each student’s natural giftedness, interests, and talents. The optimal development of each student is the responsibility of many. We are dedicated to working cooperatively with students, families, school partners, businesses and communities. We want to graduate responsible citizens, equipped to initiate personal and social change. PILAS gives priority to the development of Godly character. We challenge students to reach their full potential in order to use their God-given abilities to positively impact their homes, churches and communities for Christ. PILAS hosts weekly Youth Group activities for kids grade 5+ that are fun and interactive, teaching them about Jesus Christ, the Bible, and how to live a life full of purpose. Our goal is to build relationships with adolescents; walk alongside them in difficult life situations, and help them grow in their own faith.
