I am Professor of Public and Financial Management at the Hertie School of Governance. I served as Program Director for the Hertie School's Executive Master of Public Management (EMPM) from 2008-2014 as well as Associate Dean from 2012-2014. I am also an honorary academic head at the Institut für den öffentlichen Sektor e.V. From 2010 until this year I was co-project leader for the EU FP 7 research project Coordinating for Cohesion in the Public Sector of the Future - COCOPS (www.cocops.eu) and I have been Visiting Professor at the CBS in Copenhagen and the ANZSOG in Melbourne.My research focuses on public management (reform), performance management, comparative public administration, personal management/HRM, public service Motivation and organization theory and I am (co-)author of several books on public management reform and have published in various international journals (e.g. Public Administration, American Behavioral Scientist, Organization Studies, British Journal of Management).It was always important for me to link up with administrative practice and my expertise includes many projects in an international context (e.g. as expert for EUPAN/EC, Worldbank, PHARE-Twinning, GIZ, USAid, the Austrian Parliament and Ministries in Germany and Austria) and three years in a federal government ministry in Austria coordinating a major restructuring process as well as administrative reform Projects.I am teaching a wide range of courses, seminars and trainings both at master and executive level on public sector topics such as public management reform, strategic and performance management, HRM and comparative public administration. I have studied business administration at the University of St. Gallen and received my PhD from the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien) where I was Assistant Professor at the Institute for Public Management from 2002 until 2008.
