At Armajaro, I analyzed cocoa trade data and created a risk profile database of cocoa suppliers & farmers to help determine the level of credit that could be extended to these suppliers & farmers. The risk profile was based on past production data, individual social factors and involvement in other non-cocoa ventures. The Armajaro office in Kuala Lumpur, was the regional headquarters for its operations in Southeast Asia. The office managed cocoa buying stations across Indonesia and sold the cocoa to grinders and chocolate producers. The on the ground information from the buying stations was an important niche Armajaro had in managing it's CC+ Fund. Show less

My first internship experience was focused on compling cocoa trade statistics to develop a model for cocoa trade flow in Southeast Asia. The data served to illustrate how the cocoa trade has evolved in the region over the last 10 years. What I saw was traditional middle-men crowded out by international traders and cocoa grinders.
