With full accountability for Continuing Airworthiness Management for the Chinook programme, my role is to identify weakness in operations, to guide teams through operations and in response to component and craft maintenance, servicing and repair needs in line with flying programmes. A senior within the Avionics and base team as Chief Technician with extensive accountabilities, I managed the full Avionics cadre, third-party interactions, maintenance engineering standards and quality matters. As a highlight, I served as the designated point of contact for all Avionics matters in the transition from analogue aircraft to digital avionics suites, forming a close working relationship with Boeing to ensure timely delivery of change. Rapidly gained expertise in new systems in the Chinook fleet, I addressed new issues in online engineering documentation, wire drawings and technical documents in the release phase. I have also led the re-evaluated the Mobile Integrated Communication System (MICS) modifications to earlier variants to address interoperability issues between marks of aircraft, incorporating amendments into documents. Successfully devised, developed and implemented a Structured Learning Packages to provide professional guidance and support to personnel, I delivered training to 60 students and 200+ newly promoted Corporals, leading a highly influential programme that guided future career pathways. Implemented new learning delivery approaches, targeted at the training and learning needs of military personnel, which allowed the successful dissemination of information to groups. I also fostered a questioning culture within training sessions to improve the engagement and dynamic nature of defence instruction, while sustaining Government and RAF standards. I served as the nominated ‘Point of Care’ for trainee wellbeing and discipline, as well as overseeing Instructor competence and authority to delivery programmes. I also implemented new competency testing for Instructors, grading against approved criteria and providing feedback for professional development and change. Show less

    • Sergeant Avionics
      • Mar 2013 - Jan 2015

Managed and trained a 50 personnel team through the maintenance and repair of 14 ‘7 Squadron’ aircraft, valued at £250million, with full ownership over the rectification and maintenance schedule, authorisation and the Aircraft Servicing Plan. I optimised manpower across the serviceable aircraft in line with the flying programme, optimising availability, utilisation, materials, resources and budgets; and I appointed a Standby Engineering Team of 20 people to cover commitments outside of normal working hours to enable rapid deployment and response to global requirements. I authorised ‘stop-work’ activities where a risk to health, safety and wellbeing was identified and engaged Flying Instructors to allocate aircraft flying hours required to complete sorties and training. I was responsible for certifying aircraft as serviceable for Captain’s 1 hour before programmed take-off. I managed Flight Test Schedules, Flight Line Diary and various aircraft documentation and ensured that Flight Servicing Competency Check (FSCC) and Aircraft Servicing Standards Checks (ASSC) were completed by nominated personnel.
