Responsibilities include: - Serving customers on the counter, handing out their medication and selling them products over the counter. Giving them advice when necessary and referring to the pharmacist if required. - Labeling a prescription and checking that it is correct and legal. - Dispensing medication, making sure the correct item and quantity is being dispensed as stated on the patients prescription. - Taking customer requests and queries over the phone. - Ordering stock over the phone and on the computer, also putting away stock from our wholesalers and making sure they are stored correctly (on the shelf, in the fridge, in the controlled drug cabinet etc). - Offering a Stop Smoking service (I am a qualified stop smoking advisor) - Dispensing the Monitored Dosage Systems for the patients who are unable to do this themselves.

For the first year I was working in the dispensary: - Serving patients on reception, taking in their prescription, asking the appropriate questions (taking into consideration patient confidentiality), also taking the correct charges for prescriptions if needed. - Labeling and dispensing prescriptions, making sure what I am dispensing is correct and also the correct amount is being supplied. - Answering the phone to various different wards/departments/patients. - Dispensing controlled drugs, clinical trials and chemotherapy medication. During my second year I was working on the Acute medical wards: - Reading patients drugs charts and working alongside the doctors/nurses/healthcare assistants - Checking the medication people have bought from home is suitable for use. - Topping up the stock that is kept on the wards so they have sufficient stock to give to patients on the wards. - Communicating with the patients on the wards to see if they are taking their medication correctly and how they are getting on with it.
