  Gap Student – Pinewood School – Bourton England, 2018-2019 As a live-in gap student at Pinewood School, I was very involved in the running of the school boarding house. My role included assistant teaching, sports coaching, supervision of children, helping in surgery, admin for teaching staff, assisting with cultural activities, school office admin, serving food, boarders’ laundry, supervising pre-prep children and waitressing/bartending at school events and functions. Boarding Matron Ensuring the medical health of pupils during surgery cover and their emotional wellbeing during boarding time is vital. Other duties include waking up the boarders, supervision after supper, putting the children to bed, doing their laundry and being available throughout the night via a night bell for any concern or emergencies. Reception and Office Administration Answering phones, using the switchboard, utilising confidential student information on the database and parent liaison are all involved in office cover. I was a key representative of the school in this role, signing pupils in and out of school registration, signing for deliveries, transferring any visitors or parents to the relevant staff members and preparing important documents for the office. Assistant Coach and Caretaker Apart from the daily assistant-coaching role in junior and senior games, I was involved in supervision and coaching on match days and in securing the students’ safety as a lifeguard during swim season. Events Gap students are involved in sporting and cultural events. This includes backstage and make up or medical help during school plays, bartending or waitressing at musical concerts or functions, or the setting up of facilities or match tea on important sport match days.   Student President of Enerkids – 2008–2012 I was nine years old when I founded and managed Enerkids a kids’ energy efficiency club, which used a website and fun outings to create awareness around clean energy and energy efficiency. My role included giving presentations at schools and organising outings to Koeberg nuclear power station, beach clean-ups, hikes and environmental events. The club managed to get a sponsorship from the Eskom 49M Energy Efficiency campaign, which paid for some of the club members to attend and perform the club song at an eco-friendly festival. Show less
