I was offered a place on the Glasgow vacation scheme and I was delighted to be placed with the construction law team for the week. I gained experience of construction law in both real estate and corporate transactions as well as within Scotland and England. I had the privilege to attend talks and ask questions to various employees from a range of sectors throughout the week. I also assisted in a team presentation exercise. I shadowed a family law partner at the firm and assisted on a range of tasks including: - Working on and reviewing the Judgement of a UK relocation case. I extracted the salient points from the Sheriff’s findings in fact and identified the most persuasive arguments to potentially be used for other relocation cases. - Using an attendance note from an initial meeting with a new client to prepare an initial letter of advice and Schedule of Matrimonial Property. - Taking a draft Post-Nuptial Agreement, summarising the meaning of each clause and breaking this down for the client. - Attending an initial video call meeting with a new client seeking advice on a Pre-Nuptial Agreement.

I spent the whole summer in Iowa at a girl scouts summer camp called Camp Liberty where the children would stay for a week at a time. I was a camp counsellor and was trained in teaching certain facilities and in charge of looking after a specific group of children each week (with the age range changing each week). This helped me to gain better leadership skills as well as teamwork skills as you always worked with other staff members in your specific group but had to be in charge of a group of children.

I had the opportunity to shadow a partner of the firm for a day at Paisley Sheriff Court. I was able to see the daily duties of a criminal defence lawyer in sentencing courts, trials in progress and meetings in prisoner cells. This gave me a huge insight into what being a criminal defence lawyer entails. I had the opportunity to shadow a partner of the firm for a day at Paisley Sheriff Court. After attending open days at universities I developed an interest in studying law and decided I wanted to complete work experience in the field to determine whether I should study law at university. Completing work experience sessions at Corrigall Black enabled me to see what the daily duties are for a small law firm. I found this to be extremely insightful, especially as it was prior to my law degree and they gave me advise for the following years.
