Working in a fast paced setting such as Pizza Hut involves working as a team to ensure customers enjoy their time at the restaurant. The role also taught me how to keep to company standards when serving and how to do so in a timely and professional manner. Working at Pizza Hut whilst I continued my studies has allowed me to gain practical knowledge of hospitality settings to coincide with my modules. Working at Typo was my first role that was not hospitality based. I was part of the team that opened the Canterbury branch which meant I set up the store, giving me the opportunity to learn about visual merchandising whilst stocking the shelves. This role offered me the chance to explore new types of customer service and the opportunity to improve my upselling skills. Working at Typo helped boost my confidence as although retail was new to me, I was able to carry out my role to a high standard. Working at Typo was my first role that was not hospitality based. As part of my Work-based Learning module my team and I were fortunate enough to work with The Grand Hotel in Folkestone. After multiple site visits and meetings with the hotel manager, we were able to strategically analyse their social media accounts in order to offer our thoughts and suggestions for an improved social media presence, we looked particularly at the hotels Instagram page and their Linked-In account. We presented our findings and feedback in a presentation to the hotel manager, our module leaders and our peers. This presentation included our own example of the way we would run their Instagram account to make it more accessible to potential customers. This module gave us a chance to work with prominent members of the local hospitality industry. Communication skills and a heightened understanding of marketing on social media platforms were also essential for this module. It was a privilege also to work within a fantastic team to achieve an excellent grade.

After leaving secondary school in the summer of 2016, I decided it was time to get a part-time job. My role included waitressing for Sunday carvery; preparing for and serving at weddings, funerals and other social gatherings. Working at North Foreland for a first job taught me the importance of professionalism, teamwork and communication. I enjoyed working as a waitress at North Foreland because I was able to learn my role from other members of staff who taught me skills I still use today.
