Summer Camp Counselor
-
Jun 2019 - Aug 2019
Melwood Recreation Centre is a camp for children with differing abilities. During my time at camp I developed and learnt a number of different and often challenging skills such as,Caring for the personal and health needs of disabled and non disabled campers. Implementing camp activities fostering physical, social and emotional growth. Developing strong working relationships with campers, parents and guardians, as well as the other counsellors through effective communication and active listening skills.Supporting children by actively listening and offering encouragement. Enhancing different activity strategies to children of all different ability levels engage in activities. During my time at camp I was selected from a partnership agency to travel as a carer for adults with special needs on a weeks trip to Disney World Florida. This was an amazing experience as I was able to support the needs of the adults, whilst getting to see their excitement throughout the whole trip. After my time at Melwood, I had the opportunity to explore the rest of America for 30 days. I spent this time with a friend from University and got to see and experience many great places.
