UN-HABITAT is the United Nations agency for human settlements. As part of UN-Habitat's ongoing efforts to respond to the crisis after the Beirut port explosion, I took part in two major projects achieving the following tasks: Rmeil Cluster Project: • Supported in ensuring quality assurance, monitoring and reporting of the implemented engineering works on-site. • Assisted in tracking daily progress reports (DPR) of the project’s activities. • Contributed to reviewing and tracking a request for inspection (RFI) for cast-in situ concrete elements. • Helped in reviewing the specifications and bills of quantities (BoQ) for each building in the cluster. • Assisted in calculating the quantities of the executed work. • Supported in reviewing the seismic design for sandstone buildings reinforced with GFRP mesh. • Assisted in supervising and overseeing the installation of the fiber mesh – ensuring that the implementation was done properly. • Attended internal and external meetings with implementing partners. Lebanon Financing Facility and Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) Recovery Project • Supported in organizing the field assessment survey for 85 heritage buildings in the blast-affected areas. • Contributed to the preparation of referential maps and documents – to be used by surveyors during the assessment exercise – that help in identifying the structural unsoundness, level of damage, and heritage value of the affected buildings. • Supported in collecting data (from different official sources), conducting a second field assessment to validate findings, and liaising with involved stakeholders. • Assisted in data cleaning and analysis and helped develop a scoring matrix to sort the selected buildings by priority. Near Surface Mounted (NSM) Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) reinforcement is one of the latest and most promising strengthening techniques for Reinforced Concrete Structures. My research investigates the effectiveness of CFRP in increasing shear capacity of RC shear critical beams, using numerous strengthening configuration to maximize the increase in strength and repair.
