Stark County Honor Court is a specialized treatment court for veterans and active duty service members that have been charged with felonies in the Common Pleas Court. The program has expanded its criteria from serving low-level, non-violent felony offenders, to also include high-risk offenders, on a case-by-case basis. It is a minimum year-long program that partners with various legal and community organizations to assist veterans in completing the program. The Stark County Honor Court Program attempts to bridge the gap to the services available to veterans and create a network of support systems to help them through their probation, and continue on as productive members of the community. The combination of services, supervision, and mentoring is intended to foster successful completion of probation and draw upon the codes of honor and service instilled in the participants during their military service to our nation. Honor Court’s motto is: "Reclaiming Honor, Dignity and Lives."The Honor Court Mentor Program allows volunteer veterans from the community to provide peer mentoring to the Honor Court participants. • Chairman, Veterans Homeless Initiative
      • Oct 2015 - Jul 2019

Mission of our Initiative The mission of the Veterans Homeless Initiative is to help eliminate veteran homelessness throughout Northeast Ohio. While we understand that all vets may not be able to lead totally independent lifestyles, we strive to help provide a safe, affordable, comfortable and sustainable life experience within the limitations of our veterans’ physical and mental capabilities. Overview of Activities Working with the Department of Veteran Affairs, and other local and regional providers, we strive to fill the gaps in existing support systems offered by our government and private service organizations. Through generous donations, from people like you, we provide appliances, furniture, household goods, personal hygiene items, and to homeless veterans in transitional and permanent supporting housing and veterans at risk of becoming homeless. Many veterans carry with them the trauma of battle in the forms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury, and other physical and mental challenges. These in many cases prevent our returning soldiers from living independently. We work with VA Social Workers and veteran shelters to help bring safety, comfort, and support to all of our veterans regardless of their particular challenges or limitations. Show less
