A 4 Year Advanced Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering at the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE). This Apprenticeship allowed for hands on experience to be gained within a scientific and engineering environment in conjunction to studying core engineering theory and practices. Work experience on large scale Fusion Energy Research Projects such as the Joint European Torus (JET) and the Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak (MAST / MAST-U), were split into 3-month placements in different departments around the site. Apprenticeship Placements: - Initial 6-month period at Abingdon and Witney College with day release to Abingdon and Witney College, then Newbury College, throughout the remainder of the apprenticeship - Active Gas Handling Facility (AGHS) - Installation and Maintenance - Design Office (CATIA V5) - Business Development - MAST-U Procurement and Manufacturing - Special Techniques Group - MAST-U Electronics - Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (RACE) - MAST-U Diagnostics - Welding (TIG) - Final 15-month Placement in Special Techniques Group and ST Workshop Attainment: - Technician Position within the Special Techniques Group at UKAEA - Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering - HNC in Mechanical Engineering - Opportunity to continue Study (Part Time) Show less
