  George Makasare, age 30, has been involved with the NGO’s striving hard to deliver programmes and schemes which save lives. George’s first exposure in the world of lifesaving was as a young lifeguard in the year 2001. He went on to become a swimming and lifesaving coach (2006) training young children compete at the local, state and national level at the Swimming and Lifesaving Training Centre Wanwadi. A new beach lifeguarding programme was about to begin in the coastal state of Goa (2008). George was detailed to undertake the task of training the new recruits and ensuring quality as an internal auditor. Within two and half years, George trained over 1200 trainees to battle the waves and save lives. George also spent a short duration of his career working as part of the core operations team managing national lifesaving activities from Headquarters in Pune. He lead the Swim Programme which teaches children in Government schools swimming skills using portable swimming pools in the State of Kerala & Karnataka. He has trained 6800 children from March 2012 to May 2015 and is all set to expand the programme to other State. George Makasare has been part of activities which empower and enable people to save lives. As a teacher, mentor and manager George has always strived to overcome challenges. Until now, George has facilitated training of over 2000 people in various programmes. The programmes that George has been pivotal in developing and delivering programmes that have made dynamic changes in people’s lives. These activities have increased people’s skills to save their own and other’s lives. It has also provided people with opportunities to seek new career openings. Young boys counseled and trained as lifeguards by George have transformed their lives and risen above the poverty line. Show less
