This was a great role for me, as I gained a swathe of experience within the grounds maintenance industry. The main bulk of my knowledge is within lawn keeping and shrubbery work, though I do have some knowledge in crown lifting trees and planting work. I worked in a small team, responsible for cutting and maintaining all the grass verges and a number of parks and green spaces in the summer season, and, during the winter months maintaining all shrubs and maintenance of trees within Chester. I am proficient in the use of tools such as petrol powered strimmers and hedge shears of all varieties as well as an assortment of ride on and and pedestrian mowers. Working to a strict 2 week turn around for the whole of Chester, we are a highly motivated team. I am was at times supervising the follow up staff. My main responsibilities were to keep the follow up team working as smoothly as possible, making sure their kit and equipment was serviceable and that they knew where to go and what to do. I also ensured the areas that have been cut, were strimmed, tidied and blown clear to a high standard. I acted as the health and safety rep for my team, to gain more experience in this field and to learn how to liase with different persons within environmental services.

Over a 3 year period i worked first as a team member in the casting plant, learning and becoming adept at a number of different roles. Then, I was moved departments to the Production Control section. This area had huge time restrictions to keep the manufacturing line running smoothly. Whilst in the Production Control department i helped devise an audit system for the maintenance of the KANBAN system for parts that needed delivering to the Line. This was only an agency job and after becoming disillusioned with not being able to progress my career or myself any further decided to leave and secure a permanent position elsewhere.
