Reedsy Prompts Judge & Discovery Reviewer
-
Jul 2020 - Mar 2022
In my spare time, I used to judge submissions for a weekly short story competition and review independently published books on Reedsy's platform. It was good experience for quickly assessing the quality of a piece of writing, and introduced me to a whole new community of writing enthusiasts. Listening Volunteer and Publicity Officer
-
Feb 2020 - Jul 2021
I volunteered as an active listening volunteer for Durham Nightline, a nightly active listening service similar to Samaritans but run entirely by Durham students for Durham students. As a volunteer, I took countless calls and instant messages (IMs) from distressed Durham students. I was also the Publicity Officer from April to July of 2021, a role in which I coordinated the social media and in-person publicity for the service. By using analytics, SEO and KPIs to my advantage, I increased our social media following by 12.7% and reach by over 300%. I also organised an extremely successful giveaway which reached over 4,000 people and saw our content interactions increase by over 1000%. More importantly, though, I managed to sustain our call rate at the same level as the previous year, a particularly impressive feat because our phone line was closed and we were only taking instant messages at the time.
