At the UAS, I am able to take part in a wide range of engaging and adventurous activities alongside a great bunch of similar minded positive characters. During my time here I hope to develop a better understanding of my fit for a career in the RAF and hopefully strengthen my application if I do choose to apply. Here I take care of both an indoor and an outdoor pool, ensuring that all guests are safe and having a pleasant experience. I have recently gained experience of manning the reception too, dealing with more of the face to face interactions alongside handling of stock and money. Here I worked on shifts with myself and one other lifeguard. I would complete half an hour rotations, life guarding a maximum of 75 people in the pool alone before swapping and going into the changing rooms to clean. Here I was a Cadet Flight Sergeant in the RAFAC, getting a taste for life in the RAF by taking part in a wide array of unforgettable experiences. To list some of the best, I have; had air experience flights in a Puma helicopter and Grob Tutor light aircraft, walked 80km in 2 days at RAF Cosford road marching event, toured a section of Germany with particular military history and lived off the grid learning survival techniques in the Yorkshire dales for a week. The role of Cadet Sergeant entails planning parade evenings and monitoring the cadets progress. As I worked my way up through the ranks I took on more responsibilities and became one of the main links between the staff and the cadets. The cadet organisation gave me confidence in myself and good leadership qualities which will be transferable into whatever career it is that I head into in the future.

    • Architectural Assistant

Here I was set different architecturally related tasks (surveying and designing) and also found out more about what architects do. I was able to get insight into what goes on behind current projects in Scarborough, then see the final results in the following months after my work experience had ended. For the two years that I worked here from age 12 to 13, I got up every morning at 6:00 am to complete a 22 stop round. I did this on my bike and made a whopping £13 a week.
