  The MBB is the EU advisory body to the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, and the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association. Our role, as an accredited lobby organisation based in Brussels and Malta, is to represent business interests in both countries, relevant to EU policy: bringing Brussels closer to the Maltese business community, and the Maltese business community closer to Brussels. My job is to analyse the local business situation vis a vis EU policy and vision, and inform lobbying efforts, while also developing initiatives/programmes/projects implementing sustainable development among the Maltese business community.

  The Malta Ornis Committee is established by virtue of regulation 10 of the Conservation of Wild Birds Regulations for the purpose of advising the Minister on a range of matters concerning conservation of wild birds, including, inter alia, regarding parameters of any bird hunting seasons, authorization of derogations and monitoring of their implementation, policies related to conservation of wild birds, scientific studies and similar matters. The precise functions of the Committee are described in detail in regulation 10(6) of the Conservation of Wild Birds Regulations.The Ornis Committee is composed of eleven members appointed by the Minister for a period of one year. The Committee consists of a Chairman, Secretary, two representatives of hunting organisations (FKNK), two representatives in the bird conservation sector (Birdlife Malta), three independent experts appointed by the government, an expert on the conservation of birds and an expert on hunting and trapping. All members, except the secretary, the expert on the conservation of wild birds and the expert on hunting and trapping have one vote each. The Chairman has a casting vote.

  As the President to the Council of BirdLife Malta, Malta's largest environmental NGO, the role including chairing council sessions, identifying agendas, presenting them to the board, and moderating discussions and decisions. The role also involved working closely with the CEO to ensure that the progress towards the organisation's strategy and goals was progressing in line with council directions. BirdLife Malta is Malta's largest environmental NGO dedicated to protecting wild birds and their habitats. It is the main voice opposing unsustainable and illegal hunting in Malta, manages several Natura 2000 sites, including Malta's only RAMSAR designated wetlands, runs a popular educational programme Dinja Wahda, and is part of the global BirdLife network.

  The EU LIFE+ Project on Bird Migration and Trapping aimed to raise awareness about the importance of Malta to bird migration and the impacts of trapping on Malta’s wildlife. The communication project was a partnership between BirdLife Malta, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (BirdLife in the UK) and Media Today. It was 50% funded by the EU LIFE unit with the rest being contributed by project partners.
