I head up a small team at head office to promote the sustainability of church buildings as church buildings, in line with the objectives of the Diocese's strategy 'People Fully Alive: Ely 2025', supported by the expert guidance of the Diocesan Advisory Committee and the hard work of volunteers out in the field. • Churchwarden
      • Apr 2014 - Apr 2019

The office of Churchwarden is one of the oldest in England. It's also quasi-democratic, being elected annually by the entire adult population of the parish, regardless of any religious affiliation. So, as well as being very ancient, it's also a representative and enlightened system for managing an important community building. I'm pleased to be a churchwarden. • Jul 2000 - Jan 2006

I arrived at Finney's as a fresh graduate from the Courtauld Institute, knowing all the theory but little of the practice of dealing with works of art. Micheal Finney dealt almost exclusively in antique prints of the 17th -19th centuries. Over what was effectively an apprenticeship I learned about the cleaning, conservation, mounting and framing (including frame restoration) of prints. I also learned extensively about the artists and the history of prints and something of the connoisseur needed to tell the real from the fake. Show less
