Volunteer working on Water System + Watershed Science
-
Feb 2013 - Mar 2013
Rotary Clean Water project in Malinguapamba in the Highlands (Sierra) of Ecuador. Solo trip to brush up on my Spanish, learn more about local hydrogeology and low-tech water systems (potable + irrigation), and help coordinate for upcoming Global Grant to expand efforts to neighboring community Guantugloma. Had the wonderful experience of hiking with local Water Committees, then designing and leading work group ("Minga" in Quichua language) to install new shallow infiltrator design to improve water quality/quantity while reducing maintenance.
