I was the course leader of the FdA Media Advertising at University of Plymouth when Gemma was one of our students - one of our more enthusiastic and dedicated students. Initially I was hugely impressed by Gemma's ability to combine her creative and disciplined approach to the course with managing her family responsibilities when she had so recently moved to the South West - she is the original multi-tasker! She was a valued member of her year cohort, being a few years older than the others she quickly assumed leadership of her group and encouraged them all to produce better work. She quickly developed technical skills, particularly in print and web design and production. One could see she was well on the way to a top class of degree. Unfortunately family commitments meant she had to return to East Anglia and she was unable to complete the course - something that I know has been for her a matter of deep regret. Though I would suspect that it has also been a driver of excellence in her professional life, the work I have seen of hers in the years since she was a student speaks of a business artist who constantly strives to produce the best and exceed a client's expectations. Clients always get more than their money's worth with Gemma! It is always a pleasure to get a call from Gemma, "Have you got time for a chat ?" - and hear her outline new business ideas, to act as a sounding-board for her ambitions and listen to her resolve the issue. Actually I don't have to do much except listen. add some pointers and hear her do all the work!! And Gemma is always looking for new opportunities and new challenges - currently she is developing two new businesses which I am keen to see her progress with. Not everything she takes on is a success, but it is the mark of a truly successful businesswoman that if a project is not profitable or not producing to her satisfaction she has the business intelligence to know when to wrap it up, re-evaluate and move on to the next challenge. As client, employer, employee or business partner, anyone who works with Gemma will find it a most rewarding experience.
