When I first started my apprenticeship Gemma was warm and welcoming making me instantly feel part of the team. She made no question I had seem insignificant or menial. Her knowledge of my role and the business enabled her to create a well structured training plan and also help me to develop my skills and experience enabling my subsequent progression within the company.

My name is Stephanie Selby and I am currently a Team Manager at A-One Insurance. I joined the company in May 2011 as an administrator having had no previous experience within the Insurance Industry. Gemma Parker was my Manager and has helped me throughout my time at the company. In 2013, she asked if I would like to progress to a Property Account Handler which I agreed to and she supported me whilst I was new to the role, with coaching and her vast experience, and this in turn nurtured me to the person I am today. In 2014 a new position was available and I was encouraged by her to apply - this was for the role of Team Manager within the property department and for the team that I was working in. At first I thought it would be a difficult transition from Account Handler to Team Manager, particularly as I had started as an administrator without previous experience. However, Gemma gave me the confidence to apply for the role and I was very happy to have been offered the role. The experience that she made everything go so much smoother during mt transition from Account Handler to Team Manager. It was very helpful to have someone help who had been through the whole process before and this in turn gave me the confidence and commitment that I have now instilled into my role. Giving me the opportunity, was a huge step for me and she gave me the strength to persist and succeed and as a result of her commitment, support and coaching , I now have a highly successful team.
