Gemma delivered a fantastic presentation to Pharmacy students at a Community and Primary Care Careers Panel at The University of Manchester on 15th March 2016. Her support had a huge impact on the students who attended and 100% agreed with the statements: ‘I feel motivated to take action regarding my career.’ ‘Talking to alumni was beneficial.’ ‘I enjoyed the event.’ ‘I would recommend the event to others.’ Gemma was a pleasure to work with and I hope to see her at future events.

In my role as a joint post between the University of Sunderland and NHS Sunderland Clinical Commissioning group, I aim integrate and develop my knowledge and skills across both organisations. This includes applying research and teaching expertise into my commissioning role, especially around the planning and evaluation of community pharmacy services and I also use my knowledge of the NHS and medicines optimisation in my teaching role. There are also opportunities for relevant and interesting student projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. My wide expertise also allow me to contribute to several committees including sitting on the Medicines Optimisation Steering Group for the North East and North Cumbria Academic Health Sciences Network. In my teaching I am the module leader for the research module as part of the Master of Pharmacy programme and the MSc Pharmaceutical Sciences for the Oversees Pharmacist Assessment Programme.
