In Aller Media I head the development and technology department. The team consists of 31 developers, 21 in Oslo and 10 in Ukraine.The largest brand in our portfolio is dagbladet.no where we reach 1,3 million people each day. Our department is in charge of everything from hosting to frontend development. In addition to db.no we also have 4 other top 20 digital brands in Norway (dinside.no, sol.no, seher.no and kk.no).In addition to delivering frontend functionality to our main brands the team is also responsible for the commercial integrations. We have also built a data management platform, where we handle everything from data collection to data science. Most of this stack is built on and around Google's data products, BigQuery, BigTable, Cloud Pub/Sub etc.In addition to data we also have a strong focus on monetization of our products, Dagbladet Pluss beign the front runner in this area for us. To be able to have a paid offering we have had to build a platform that also handles authorization, authentication and subscription management, in some of these areas we have used 3rd party products in others we have had to build pieces ourselves to integrate the 3rd party products.When it comes to technologies we use Golang, the frontend is React, Next, Node.js and related technologies, for data science we sometimes use Python. These are our go-to languages, but we defer from them if there is a good case for doing so. All our applications are built using kubernetes and our backends are hosted on Google Cloud Platform. The edge is served from Norway using Varnish, to be able to handle the high traffic with low latency that is required for our products.For processes we use a breed of Scrum and Kanban, depending on what phase of development we are in.
