I have known Gaynor for more than 6 years and have been very impressed with her ability to acquire journals and negotiate contracts. She is very dedicated to her work and is able to think outside the box for original solutions. Gaynor is very personable and professional at the same time and makes a very good impression at presentations.

Gaynor and I worked together on various publishing projects over a decade or so, both when she was with John Wiley and Sons and with Thomson Education. I always found her most professional and at the same time very easy and pleasant to work with.

A diverse and challenging role requiring strategic and operational leadership to grow the Society’s portfolio, my key priorities are to develop and diversify our business channels in order to maintain the leading edge science output from a not-for-profit, independent society publisher. I am joining a talented company who are passionate about building great and customisable digital solutions for publishers and I look forward to building new and extending existing collaborations with publishers, societies, aggregators and other organisations operating in the scholarly communications arena. Acquisitions: acquired new journals across STM and HSS subjects in which the company is active, mainly through new society partnerships, but also through purchase of titles and lists (e.g. Left Coast Press journals). Strategic list development: selecting and assessing new business opportunities for compatibility with Maney’s list and growth objectives. Signing new journals in new and established subject areas. Setting targets and revenue growth, implementing plans and mentoring publishing team members to achieve list developments. New business: I set the company’s open access agenda having introduced and project managed its hybrid OA service, initiated launch of its first gold OA journal and published its green OA policies. I was responsible for managing the key business relationships underpinning this membership organisation’s publications. With the publication of four established journals outsourced to Wiley, one new launch journal and book series, and the Society’s magazine published by Ten Alps, I set and monitored KPIs, managed all SLAs with publishing service providers, identified risks associated with SCIs publishing assets and researched and proposed ways to mitigate them. I managed the publications committee and their meetings and all reporting to and from the publishing partners. Show less

I started a new textbook list in Computer Science (and researched launching a new list in Nursing) to augment the existing and successful EMEA college publishing operation. I published first and second year core texts and adapted best-selling US textbooks from a sister company imprint. Starting within the STM division on the Management & Computing list, I managed a product mix of 30 new books per year and 12 journals (four of which I started-up). I then moved to the Professional & Trade division under direction from the newly acquired Hungry Minds team in the US where I effected the transition of a largely research monograph list to a higher contract professional profile. In 2003, I moved to the newly created UK college division where I published texts across the computing curriculum and helped open export channels to the US. Show less
