A frustrated teacher battling through political red tape in an attempt to improve the socio and economic life chances of working class children through education. My own background in deprivation, poverty and limited life chances inspired a addictive interest in education and the working classes. Working in my own community within education and the the criminal justice system has enabled a micro analysis of the extent of how failure to educate young people adequately has an impact on criminal activity within communities. This interest inspired a huge amount of research hours into completing a three year research masters with distinction. The research looked specifically at the educational interaction of children who were on F.S.M and their environment (the educational establishment). The research tracked the historical work of many other researchers and innovators throughout history who had analysed the cultural nuances of working class children in the educational environment. The paper argues that in ignoring the research and lessons of the past the voices of the educationally failed remain unheard. This research initially enabled my voice to be heard, as after the riots a committee was formed to support the socio and economic issues. Political intervention in education since 2011, now argues that these children are top of the educational agenda. Yet the government has taken on a half hearted approach in supporting these children. Funding is often placed in the hands of individuals who have little or no understanding of the needs of these children and simply used as a tick box exercise to support government agendas. Nevertheless, I am still hopefully awaiting an inspirational political leader who will truly put the education of poor working class children at the forefront of educational policy.
