    • Manager of Network Services
      • 2000 - 2002

Much like UWB just before, I was brought in to BCBSOK to change things. Their infrastructure was bigger, but no less in need of revision. The transition from mainframe-based systems had just begun. My team of 13 employees and contractors did the following:* implemented a robust Microsoft Exchange messaging/collaboration infrastructure* revamped the wiring and switching fabric at our 3 Tulsa and 1 OKC locations* designed a disaster recovery plan specifying the OKC site as our hotsite* revamped the Help Desk function to be more responsive and accountable* I also gave the Network Services staff significant skills training, which had been denied them for several years.

I was brought in to UWB as a change agent, to address both an IT infrastructure and staff that hadn't grown exponentially as the campus. I brought in a new Network Manager, purchased many new servers to replace old worn-out items, and refocused the staff to be more responsive and proactive to faculty and staff needs.Another large element of my assignment was to represent UWB at the main Seattle campus, and raise their level of awareness both in our needs and our capabilities at the branch campuses. Together with my colleague Barbara Horgan at the UW/Tacoma branch, we made many "fence mending" improvements in how the three campuses worked together.Lastly, I transferred within the state system specifically to help design our new permanent campus, which was to be co-located with Cascadia Community College. Working closely with NBBJ Architects and project management from the Washington State General Services Administration was an incredible charge. I love being able to have several buildings on a beautiful hillside that have my fingerprints on them.
