Bio
David L.B. Smith
It was my great privilege to work with Gary during one of the most difficult events in recent years. Our school, our students, staff, and faculty were hit hard by super storm Sandy. Gary demonstrated leadership, compassion, and commitment equal to the challenge. He kept his team together and on task during the week that we had no access to the school. Gary was able to communicate with, track, and follow up with over 600 students facing diverse and numerous challenges. His success was born out by the success of our students and the fact that we met all retention benchmarks for the year. Gary has all the tools needed for continued growth and leadership.

It was an honor and privilege to have had the opportunity to assist Gary Washburn as diligently pursued his Master's Degree in Professional School Counseling at Sage Graduate School. Having had Gary in several of the classes I teach I quickly became aware of his intelligence, his commitment to children, youth and young adults, and his many skills to support his efforts to make a difference in the lives of the students with whom he came in contact. Throughout the program Gary demonstrated not only strong counseling skills but also leadership skills, advocacy skills, and consulting skills. He was an excellent team player earning the respect of his peers as they collaborated on projects. He continued to demonstrate his willingness to collaborate while working as a school counseling intern in an NYC high school. Gary Washburn is a talented young man whose many talents and skills in the area of education and youth development are such that any schools or organizations working with children, youth, and young adults upon hiring him will assuredly find him to be a most welcome asset.
