Gary is an excellent project leader, theatre consultant, and client advocate. He brings a wealth of knowledge from the theatre industry and beyond, combines it with well-placed natural aptitude, and his results speak for themselves. Able to innovate as well as empower others to do so, his commitment to the end-goal and getting the best for the client shines through in his work. A keen eye for detail, a thorough and methodical approach, and a good head for well-placed strategic approach, his is a world in which there is no second best. I’d have no hesitation recommending Gary for any building, construction, or theatre project.

Being part of the Charcoalblue family has allowed me to work on incredible projects with incredible people ensuring that theatre is at the heart of all of the work I do. The past few years I have been privileged to work on a number of projects including the recently opened Yard at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Storyhouse in Chester and the soon to be completed Boulevard Theatre in SOHO, London to name but a few! In 2018 my focus is to develop Charcoalblue's turnkey consultancy service focusing on projects that require a very particular approach providing clients with a streamlined, cost efficient and comprehensive management service with Charcoalblue's acclaimed auditorium design at its core. I have a wealth of experience ranging from small scale theatre to large international projects. With a proven ability to manage all operation/production departments to a high standard combined with an excellent record of project coordination I have successfully delivered a large portfolio of productions, events and buildings throughout my time in the industry. Having spent over 16 years in theatre and events working with some of the most prestigious companies in the UK I have been fortunate to be involved with a range of projects from large scale Opera & Ballet to building theatres. Because of these experiences I have tailored my work towards technical design, project management and consultancy work. I decided to increase my skills and obtain a Masters degree in Quantity Surveying which included building technology, contract administration, CDM 2007 and H&S advice, tendering, measurement, and cost analysis making me a more rounded professional. As an associate consultant my project work varies and I bring into Charcoalblue a diverse knowledge that offers practical and intelligent solutions to the design and build of auditoriums. I am currently working on large scale international projects that are unique, challenging yet very rewarding. Contracted in to deliver the complicated flooring required for the Royal Shakespeare Companies production of Wolf Hall in the Swan Theatre. A tight lead time and complex design requires all my skills to deliver this project on time for two great companies, CTS and the RSC. Preparing the designers for the professional environment by introducing them to a number of skills including CAD, H&S, Legal Advice and general theatre skills. Originally working for the company as technical manager for the 2006 outdoor Mysteries event in the ruins of the Coventry Cathedral which involved a 1000 strong cast and 50 crew, I was asked to stay on to assist with the technical design of the B2 studio theatre alongside ESS. Also during this time I technically managed around 12 productions for the company developing the workshops, employing staff , developing working practices and managing Trevor Nunn’s return to the theatre with his production of ‘Scenes from a Marriage’. Originally joining the company at the age of 21 as a Stage Technician I was elevated to Acting Technical Manager during various company staffing changes. During this time I oversaw several challenging in house productions including the technically complicated Robert Leparge production of Polygraph, the first National tour of Eclipse theatre's production of Moon on a Rainbow Shawl and the West End transfer of Rat Pack - Live from Las Vegas. In recognition of my skills and efforts during this period of transition I was promoted to Deputy Technical Manager. This role opened several opportunity's to me including Production Managing several touring productions, overseeing installs in the West End and managing multiple co-productions with established Rep theatre's. The Playhouse also introduced me to the rules and regulations required in the theatre and events sector that would prove valuable as I progressed my career. Show less
