March, 2013 To Whom It May Concern: I worked with Gary Behan as Membership Director at Standard Country Club in Louisville, Kentucky from 2000-2008 when Gary served as General Manager. Gary came to Standard new to the management of a full-service country club. Gary aggressively pursued certification in areas he was unfamiliar with, i.e. golf course and swimming pool maintenance. He also became very knowledgeable in leading the club in its financial management. Under Gary's direction the club was able to renovate and expand the tennis complex, add first-class practice facilities to the golf course, add new parking facilities with landscaping, and make general updates to the club house and club property. As a Manager, Gary had an open door policy and was always readily available to his staff when a problem arose. He was progressive in letting the management staff think outside the box and supported the staff when new ideas were brought before the Board of Directors for approval. With Gary's support I was able to gain Board approval for unique membership programs that added more members than had been added in a number of years. Gary was visible to the membership. He knew club members by name, and interacted with them on a daily basis. I highly recommend Gary for any position in country club management, hospitality services, or other leadership roles. Sincerely, Joyce M. Butler Retired Membership Director Standard Country Club

Gary was a mentor to me in the hospitality field. As a General Manager he made sure to understand every aspect of the club first hand, from the greens, to food & beverage, to the details of accounting. Having the knowledge of each department is one of the many things that made him a good leader.
