I served as a paid research assistant for W.H Smith Professor of Economics Dr. James West at Baylor University. We worked to assembled a database consisting of all border counties in the 48 contiguous US states, differences across these borders regarding state income and sales taxation rates, and short and long term outcomes including employment and unemployment rates, population migration, business establishment creation and destruction for businesses. I was personally responsible for identifying and obtaining sources of data at the appropriate level of disaggregation and collaborating with Dr. West to construct a data set with which to investigate the contemporaneous and long term effects of different tax structures on economic outcomes.
