It is a pleasure to recommend one of our best students, Garrett Beard, to your program. We are a small school with a very diverse student body and Garrett is a shining star! He has been a student in several of my classes over the past two years and was a top student in all of those classes. I can say without reservation that he is intelligent, conscientious, thorough, and determined to succeed. I am a retired Doctor who practiced Psychiatry in Detroit, Michigan, I know what it takes to be successful in a professional medical program, and Garrett has the determination and willingness to do the hard work necessary to succeed. Over the past two years, Garrett has faced physical challenges that would have made lesser students quit but he persevered and kept coming to class and doing excellent work in spite of those problems. He was able to do well and help other students improve along the way. He has been an example of tenacity and dedication to all our students, and has become a true advocate for our physically challenged students. Garrett is currently leading the charge to bring awareness to the difficulties facing the visually impaired by giving a class presentation that explains the intricacies of his treatments and the obstacle they present. He does all while maintaining an A average. Garrett has a warm and engaging personality, which will be invaluable to him in his clinical experiences. These qualities along with his empathy are perfect in any career where he is meeting and caring for others. He manages to prioritize school, work, and family seamlessly, never using his other responsibilities as a vehicle to excuse himself from doing his best. He is an asset to our student body and will be to yours as well. I will surely miss his smiling face and sense of humor in class, but he has truly earned his rite of passage to bigger and greater things. Again, I am honored that Garrett chose me to recommend him and I would appreciate your consideration as he is one of our best and brightest students. Sincerely, Effie G. Moten, MD
