Ive spent the last 10 years at Stevens Rowsell , overseeing the middle of the shop floor. Working within a Sub-contract enviroment means the work we do is ever changing, and we have to be ready to adapt and improve our methods regularly. Ive been lucky enough to lead many projects for big name clients, setting up and running production lines within the buisness. Alot has changed over time but our key targets have always remained the same.. A quality product for our customers. Keeping up to date with technological advancements. And the development of young engineers. Together we have grown the buisness, and the services we can offer our clients now, are market leading. Show less

I started as a fabricator welder at Gunnebo, after finishing my apprenticeship. Originally looking too improve on the skills ide developed at Crawley college and soon became A key member of the team. There was a wealth of skills and knowledge in the department and my skill set grew rapidly thanks to help from the time served engineers. Within 6 months ide accepted the role of fabrication supervisor, and set to making improvements to the workshop and practices, creating a strong productive team. Due to a house move and a growing family, my needs changed and I wished to be closer to home, so I left Gunnebo to take a position at Stevens Rowsell. The experience I gained at Gunnebo was priceless, and alot of what I do today Is reflected in that. I continued to work on projects for Gunnebo at Stevens Rowsell, untill they sadly closed production in the UK. Show less

After 2 years experience at Tobel sheetmetal, I spent 4 months travelling before starting an apprenticeship at Hotchkiss. As a leading long established firm, whos apprenticeship scheme was second to none, this was the place I wanted to be. I did have to force myself apon them as at '18' I was already too old for the scheme, and at the time was living on my own. But after a groveling letter and agreeing to move back too my family home, I was accepted in. My previous experience meant I was able too get ahead, and concentrate on absorbing as much of the vast wealth of knowledge from the time served 'old school' engineers within the buisness. Soon I was running my own team and helping to train the new apprentices coming in fresh from school. I did 1 day a week at crawley college learning all manner of fabrication methods and buisness ideals, from possibly one of the best teachers ive ever had the pleasure of learning from. My 6 years here were a privilege and set me up for the career I have to day. I moved on from Hotchkiss too put the skills ide learnt in to practice, and develop myself as a fabricator and teacher, passing on those skills to others. The Hotchkiss team remained long term friends, and I returned for many works outings years after leaving the company. Hotchkiss helped shape my future and I will forever be gratefull for that. • May 1997 - May 1999

I was still doing my GCSE's when A job came up at Tobel for an apprentice, I was eager too start learning the trade as soon as possible, as Ide always had an intrest in engineering and fabrication methods from an early age. The company was on the small side which meant the work was varried and the process was, by todays standard old school. This couldnt of been better for me as I was starting out and learning how to do things by hand. I was also fortunate to understudy with the workshop supervisor, who got all the more complex 1 off jobs meaning I was learning a wide varriety of processes from scratch and by hand. I stayed with the company for 2 years before going off discovering the world, but the experience I had there cemented my ideas on what I wished to persue as a career going forward. Show less
