Queenstown Rafting (now part of the Go Orange brand) is New Zealand’s largest white water rafting company offering half day and multi day rafting excursions in the South Island of New Zealand. I started working for the company in 1998 and worked there for 6 years before my employment with NSW Ambulance. I was a senior guide and trip leader and in brief my role involved: Training of new guides in river rescue, river skills, risk management and customer communication. Over 10 years in the adventure tourism industry in communicating with people from different cultures, social backgrounds and ages. Ensuring the smooth running of the day to day operations on and off the river Broad background in leadership and supervisory roles, including the organising of up to 20 staff plus 130 clients. Extensive experience in making competent decisions regarding staff/client safety in perceived high risk situations. The ability to plan and prioritise in sometimes stressful situations. Dealing with unforeseen emergencies on the river including helicopter evacuations , river rescue, hypothermia, fractures, dislocations and other medical problems. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Maintained an extensive involvement with the Queenstown Water Rescue unit as a volunteer, giving me the opportunity to learn specialised skills: Water safety and rescue Search and rescue
