    • Offshore Project Manager / Geotechnical Engineer
      • Dec 2012 - Mar 2016

Having a wealth of experience in offshore geotechnical site investigations, I take the responsibility for planning and executing the contracts that Geoquip Marine undertakes. Using the knowledge garnered over a decade of working on a variety of offshore vessels to implement creative solutions to difficult project requirements. My most recent achievement was the successful delivery of a project for an oil and gas major, involving drilling within 10m of live production platforms from a DP2 vessel. With a very narrow window for completion, I took the lead in developing a thorough safety and execution plan, before overseeing the fieldworks from the vessel, which were safely delivered on schedule without incident. Due to my thorough and organised approach, I have also been trusted with the responsibility of ensuring our fleet of vessels are fully equipped with the necessary equipment to support the projects. To accomplish this, I set up new procedures and user-friendly spreadsheets to aid our multi-national laboratory technicians in making accurate stock takes. This higher quality data was then used in a more controlled way, with orders being tracked from quote request right through the logistical process to delivery on the vessel, allowing for an immediate assessment vessel readiness This allowed for potential pitfalls to be identified and rectified early minimising costly project delays, with the system now being recognised as a complete success My eye for detail and thorough understanding of geotechnical engineering, onshore soils laboratory testing and offshore drilling vessel operations has allowed me to establish myself as a ‘go-to man’ for engineering and technical queries within the company, and seem me become involved with the QA process at final approval level. This combined with my friendly and approachable demeanour has resulted in my mentoring all graduate geotechnical engineers and providing numerous training and demonstrations to aid their development Show less

    • Offshore Project Manager / Project Manager
      • Nov 2009 - Dec 2012

I joined GEMS as an experienced geotechnical engineer and was initially involved in performing spudcan penetration analyses, pile capacity and pile driveability studies both in real-time offshore conditions, and in an onshore QA support role. During a quiet period in the offshore industry, I took it upon myself to develop a computer programme that could more accurately predict spudcan penetration in ‘hard overlying soft layers’ based on a dissertation that was expected to replace the existing methodology. This allowed GEMS to remain at the forefront in providing the most recent developments in industry accepted standards and proved to be a major selling point in tendering for sites with these anticipated soil conditions. My professionalism and commitment was recognised immediately by GEMS and rewarded with a swift promotion to Offshore Project Manager, where my duties included; • Providing technical input to mobilisation activities • To have input into selection and approval of project team • To be available for technical and QHSE liaison with the client • Assisting with the creation of project specific QHSE documentation • Being the initial point of contact offshore • To implement the project plans offshore • To be responsible for the safe mobilisation of the vessel • To organise and host project safety meetings • To assist with any incident investigation and follow up • To ensure that all operations were conducted in a safe manner • To ensure that the project procedures were adhered to during operations • To ensure that all personnel followed the documented HSE procedures In performing this role, I successfully delivered numerous multi-million Dollar projects on a wide variety of drilling vessels, in countries ranging from Turkmenistan and West Africa to the Arctic Circle without incident and to complete client satisfaction, bringing my team home safely each time. • Fugro GeoConsulting Ltd
    • Oxford, United Kingdom
    • Geotechnical Project Engineer
      • Nov 2005 - Nov 2008

In my first professional role after graduating, I joined Fugro as a graduate geotechnical engineer. My time was equally divided between working offshore, the UK office and onshore laboratory as I learnt and familiarised myself with the industry. After a year, I was promoted to being a geotechnical engineer, before my diligence was again rewarded a year later with promotion to Offshore Project Manager. One of my major achievements at Fugro was in being selected to manage a pioneering project in Papua, Indonesia which was to utilise Fugro’s new dual seismic PCPT cone, a technology that had not been used in the field. During the project, it became apparent that the equipment was not capable of operating to the required borehole depth of 120m. Without the option of onshore assistance due to the remote location of the project, I was able to negotiate with the client representative to drill numerous shallow holes so as to ensure that the total project value was achieved.
