  In today's competitive job market, work experience constitutes a significant factor in selecting candidates for work places. In Israel, many students complete their academic studies, with no practical work experience and therefore often encounter difficulties when entering the job market. The number of available work places is decreasing and many opportunities are closed to these young candidates. The internship practice enables the students to integrate, during their academic studies, in renowned public and business institutions, in roles suitable to their field, studies and goal of employment. The internship enables the students to broaden their social-professional network, to gain professional experience towards professional integration at the end of their studies and to acquire a relative advantage in the professional world. In Israel, there are many functioning internship programs, taking place mainly in academic institutions and in Youth Centers throughout the country. 'The Next Step' aspires to become a collective knowledge resource for these programs, to learn from their successes and to distribute the accumulated knowledge, to provide tools of facilitation for the internship programs and to create a uniform language for this developing field. In order to promote the internship practice in Israel, we at 'The Next Step' work towards a social conscious change whilst creating opportunities for young people to integrate in high standard internship. In addition, we work towards the academic world's acknowledgment of the internship as an inherent stage in the training of students in their field of study and in promoting them in the professional world later on, by granting academic credit for the internship simultaneous with our efforts to encourage employers in opening appropriate internship possibilities, and to integrate interns in their organization, and also provide guidance to the employers in this process.
