Executive Director
-
Jan 2023 - Present
I bring non-profit management expertise and a high-level of experience in community-based programs, mutual-aid collective development, outreach, advocacy/organizing, finance, operations, and other relevant disciplines to The Okra Project. I work diligently to identify challenges and opportunities, while seeking to work across departments and teams to come up with highly innovative solutions. My work and time here, serves to increase the effectiveness and impact of The Okra Projects services and mission. I also seek to contribute to The Okra Projects work to review its internal practices with the goal of rooting out the ways anti-Black modalities, systemic oppression and transphobia shows up in various spaces, with the hopes of ridding the same community I not only serve, but am part of, of those barriers. Program Director
-
Apr 2022 - Aug 2022
I was initially hired as the Program Manager when I came to The Okra Project. As we continued to restructure and rebuild, the ED at the time was aware of my work ethic, contributions work in and with community, as well as previous collaborations with other organizations. It were these same values and work ethic that allowed me to be promoted to Program Director. And in that role, I was responsible for researching, planning, developing and implementing the organization's programs. While at the time, I did not have a Program Manager working with me, my gladly accepted responsibilities beyond the above would have been to hire, train and be a motivating mentor to staff. Eager to lead large group discussions and to answer questions and remedy any complaints. Show less
