A few months into my role as CCO at Pavone/quench I promoted Gabby to ACD. My only regret was that I didn’t do it sooner. At that point she’d been with the agency for fourteen years, or some such, and, for reasons I still don’t understand, nobody in my position put her in a position to reach her professional goals. She was given the title of art director at some point before I started but wasn’t really used as one. Maybe it’s because she began in production. Or because she took on any assignment without any complaint. Or maybe it’s because Gabby is shy and as quiet as a mouse. Kidding. Thankfully, she’s neither of those things. And who knows what my predecessors were thinking. What I know is that in addition to being an amazing ACD/art director with incredible design discipline, Gabby is a conceptual and strategic thinker who understands the business of advertising, too. She’s great with clients and co-workers and she’s constantly pushing herself and others to make the work, and the agency, better. And no matter what she’s working on, she gives it everything she has. Always. Gabby is a continual learner who selflessly shares her time and knowledge with others, regardless of how busy she is. And she’s always busy. Gabby is also fearless. She’s not afraid to jump into a new medium or on a new platform. If she’s never worked in a particular sector or on a specific type of account, she’s not afraid to dig in and learn what she doesn’t know. She’s not afraid to fail. Not afraid to sacrifice. Not afraid to speak her mind. And while she may be quick to criticize herself when she thinks her work isn’t perfect, she’s not afraid to take constructive criticism. I am grateful I had the opportunity to work with Gabby — she made me better at my job. Should I ever join another agency as CCO my first hire would be Gabby. But I’d probably have to back up a Brinks truck to persuade her to join that agency because Gabby is incredibly loyal. But here’s the thing — not only would I back that truck up, I’d have two lined up behind it.

Gabby is a real team player and someone who is totally invested in the work she does. She puts a great deal of thought and energy into her regardless of the size or scope. She understands the role design plays in marketing communications and looks to the rest of the team for insight, direction and constructive feedback to make the work better, at all times.

river guide, sales associate
-
May 1994 - Aug 2004
Was a sales associate in one of the area's most-well known canoe/kayak specialty shops. I was responsible for training new hires and had too continually keep up to date on the latest technology and products. I also served as a guide on river tours due to the experiential knowledge of the skills and products that are used in canoeing/kayaking. River sports have been a passion of mine since childhood.
